Hi my name is Ellen Thompson-Jennings and I'm the Family History Hound.
I was in my teens when my interest in genealogy started to take shape.
It was at that time that I sat with my 93 year great grandmother;
Alice Elizabeth Oliver nee Clark and asked her questions that I'd found in a book. I pursued genealogy for a time, but then life got busy and it wasn't until my children were grown that I realized that I had the time to commit to this hobby.
Alice Elizabeth Oliver nee Clark - My great grandmother
But it's not just a job or a hobby... it's a passion or dare I say an obsession. Ok, let's go with passion.... So what do you do with all that energy?
Well you read everything you can get your hands on that's about genealogy and family history. But then what do you do? Well then you help others with their family history, you start a store to provide product that will help others with their story, you take courses to gain knowledge and finally you write a blog about all the things you think others will find interesting and helpful.
As my own family history has taken me through Canadian, English and U.S. records I've learned a great deal. Remember .... it's my passion. I have worked with records of all types; civil registration, church records, censuses, probate, war records, Home Children files, divorces, hospital files, DNA and so much more. It's always about following the evidence.
I'm a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and a member of the Alberta Genealogical Society as well as a member of the Kingston Historical Society. I'm the co-chair of the Edmonton Branch English SIG and I've held the positions of Archivist and Publicity Chair for the Edmonton Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society and was the 2010 winner of the Margaret Kay Memorial Scholarship.
Let my passion for genealogy help you with your own genealogy.
